What to Wear for Senior Photos (Vancouver, WA Edition)
Picking outfits shouldn’t be stressful. Here’s a simple plan I use with my seniors at Studio Q Photography in Vancouver, WA so you look like you and your photos feel timeless.
1) Start with one “hero” outfit
Choose the thing you feel amazing in—jeans and a great jacket, a simple dress, or your favorite band tee with boots. If you feel good, you’ll look good.
2) Keep patterns simple
Small prints and graphics can get busy. Solids and subtle textures photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your face.
3) Layer for variety
A jacket, flannel, cardigan, or hat can turn one look into three in seconds. We’ll mix and match on location for more variety without a full change.
4) Shoes matter
They show in more photos than you think. Clean sneakers, boots, or simple flats beat worn-out everyday shoes.
5) Colors that flatter
Neutrals + one accent color work great. Think denim, cream, black, olive, rust, or soft pastels. Avoid neon.
6) Fit over size
Tailored beats baggy. If it pulls, gapes, or twists, you’ll fuss with it. Bring a backup top just in case.
7) Hairstyles & makeup
Go for “polished everyday.” Skip brand-new haircuts the same week. Blotting papers or a matte powder stop shine. Lips and brows define the face even in soft light.
8) Bring a “comfort kit”
Lint roller, hair tie, brush/comb, lip balm, blotting papers, and comfy sandals for walking.
9) Seniors who play sports or music
Bring the jersey, letter jacket, instrument—one meaningful item tells your story without taking over the session.
10) Bonus: families & friends
If we add a quick photo with parents or a best friend, coordinate—not match. Stay in the same color family.
